Hello 5th Grade Families! 🎉

We’re halfway through the school year, and our 5th graders are shining bright! ✨ Last trimester was packed with exciting learning adventures, and we’re working hard to complete our 2nd trimester in the month of March. Let’s dive into what your amazing kids have been up to and what’s coming next!

Previous Highlights 🔍

In Science, our young scientists explored the fascinating world of molecules — the tiny building blocks of everything around us! 🧪 In Writing, students continued to improve their by expanding their sentences to add more detail and make their stories come alive.  We wrapped up our Math module on adding and subtracting fractions, mastering those tricky parts and wholes! 

What’s Coming Up? 

Next week, we’re diving into narrative writing, where students will create their own stories filled with imagination and detail.  In math, we’ll explore division as fractions — a new way to think about sharing and splitting!  Social studies will take us back in time to learn about the French and Indian War, while in our Wonders Anthology, we’ll read about Rosa Parks and her incredible courage.  We’ll also connect biographies to Black History Month by studying key figures from the Civil Rights Movement who made a difference.  Science will continue with hands-on experiments modeling matter, focusing on how solids dissolve in liquids and learning about emulsifiers.

Things to Remember 

• Encourage your child to share their narrative stories at home — storytelling is a great way to build confidence and creativity!
• Practice fraction division with everyday examples, like sharing snacks or dividing up chores.
• Black History Month is a wonderful opportunity to discuss courage, justice, and change — feel free to explore these topics together.
