Grade 3

❄️ Welcome to Our Winter Wonderland in Third Grade! ❄️

Hello, wonderful families! Our third graders are warming up their brains with exciting new learning adventures. From measuring and math magic to exploring floating trains and crafting stories, our classroom is buzzing with curiosity and creativity. Let’s dive into all the cool things we’ve been up to and what’s coming next!

November’s Highlights ⛄️

Our third graders wrapped up Module 2 in Eureka Math, mastering different forms of measurement like time, mass, and volume. They also practiced rounding to the nearest 10 and 100 to estimate amounts — a skill that’s as handy as bundling up in a cozy scarf! Now, they’ve started Module 3, which will keep them busy through December.

In science, students explored the fascinating world of floating trains — learning how they rise, float, move, and gently come to a stop through hands-on experiments and research. This inspired their writing, where they’ve taken on the role of scientists to create informational pieces aimed at making the “citizens of Faraday” feel safe and informed about these amazing trains. They’re busy editing and polishing their work before publishing their final drafts.

Grammar lessons focused on singular and plural nouns, helping students sharpen their language skills. In ELA, we dove into main ideas, key details, themes, and the author’s point of view — all essential tools for becoming strong readers. Social Studies took us on a map adventure, learning compass directions, map keys, symbols, and how to find locations — perfect for navigating our winter wonderland!

What’s Coming Up Next? ❄️✨

As we step into December, here’s what’s on the horizon:

  • Math: Module 3 will introduce multiplication and division with units 0, 1, 6-9, and multiples of 10. Students will explore properties like the commutative and distributive properties to make math even more magical.

  • Science: We’ll investigate how inheritance and the environment influence traits in different organisms — a perfect way to understand the wonders of nature this season.

  • Writing: Continuing with the RACES strategy, students will respond to text-based questions and then transition from informational writing to crafting engaging narratives.

  • Grammar: We’ll build on our noun knowledge by exploring possessive nouns before moving on to different verb forms.

  • ELA: After reinforcing main ideas, we’ll explore problems and solutions in stories, followed by sequencing events — great skills for storytelling and comprehension.

  • Social Studies: Students will learn about citizenship, discovering what it means to be a good citizen and their role in the community — a wonderful theme for the season of giving and kindness.

Things to Remember 🎒

  • Encourage your child to practice rounding numbers and multiplication facts at home to build confidence.

  • Ask your child about the floating train experiments and their informational writing — it’s a great way to connect learning with real-world science!

  • Remind students to use the RACES strategy when answering questions to strengthen their writing skills.

  • Keep exploring maps and directions during family outings or winter walks to reinforce social studies skills.

  • As the weather gets colder, please ensure your child comes to school dressed warmly for outdoor activities.

Wrapping Up with Warm Wishes! ☃️

Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child’s learning journey. Our third graders are shining bright like winter stars, and we can’t wait to see all the amazing things they’ll accomplish next! Stay cozy, stay curious, and let’s make this December a month full of learning and joy! 🌟🎄
