Grade 3

Welcome to another exciting month in Mrs. Caparco and Ms. Desrochers' 3rd Grade Class! 🌼 As we embrace the beauty of spring, our classroom is buzzing with creativity and learning. Let’s take a look at what we’ve been up to and what’s coming next!

February

Last month was filled with wonderful discoveries! 🌟

  • Math: We dove into the world of area, exploring rectangles and irregular shapes. Our students wrapped up Module 4 and completed the end-of-module assessment with flying colors! 📏
  • Literacy: We enjoyed reading poetry to uncover the messages behind the words. Students worked diligently on graphic organizers for their narratives, focusing on comparing and contrasting characters' points of view. 📚
  • Science: Our exploration of traits and environmental changes led us to a fun experiment with celery! We changed the water color, and the celery leaves transformed to match. How cool is that? 🌱
  • Social Studies: We compared and contrasted different regions and began crafting essays to share our findings. 🗺️

March:

This month, we are gearing up for more exciting learning adventures! 🌈

  • Math: We completed the STAR math test and are now diving into the world of fractions! Students will learn about equal parts and how fractions represent parts of a whole number. 🍰
  • Literacy: We will be completing the STAR literacy assessment and preparing for RICAS. Students will learn how to compare texts, tackle multiple-choice questions, and use the "RACES" strategy for long-answer responses. We will be working on this together and students will take what they know and try it independently. ✍️
  • Science: We wrapped up our "Inheritance and Traits" unit by answering the question, "How do organisms get traits?" (either by inheriting traits from their parents or adapting to their environment). Next, we’ll begin our new unit on "Environment and Survival." 🌍
  • Social Studies: We completed our compare and contrast essays with different regions. We’ll be discussing the American Revolution next and the importance of the Constitution and Bill of Rights in our quest for freedom.

Things to remember

ELA RICAS will be on April 3rd and April 4th. The test will begin immediately at 9am, please do not have students come in late specifically for these two days. Remember to eat breakfast as it will help students to stay focused (and full).

Until next time!

Thank you for being such an amazing part of our classroom community! We are excited for another month of learning and growth. Let’s keep the spring spirit alive! 🌷 Have a fantastic month ahead!
