Grade 1
Grade 1 Mrs. Manwaring and Mrs. Ferranti - November
Hello Fall from Grade 1 with Mrs. Manwaring and Mrs. Ferranti! 🍁🍂
Welcome to a cozy, colorful month in Grade 1! The leaves are turning, the air is crisp, and our classroom is buzzing with learning and fun. We’re so excited to share all the wonderful things happening in our little community of learners. Let’s dive into what we’ve been up to and what’s coming next!
Last month 🍎
Last month, our first graders explored the magic of numbers and letters with enthusiasm! We practiced handwriting to make our letters and numbers neat and proud. In reading, we discovered new sounds with short vowels and tricky digraphs like ch, sh, and th. Our social studies journey took us into the heart of communities—learning about the jobs people do and how we all work together. Science sparked curiosity as we talked about what plants and animals need to survive, noticing how they protect themselves in nature.
Next month 🍂
Next week, we’re diving deeper into math! We’ll be working on sums and differences to 10, helping our young mathematicians move from counting all to counting on. This is a big step toward fluency in addition and subtraction, setting a strong foundation for all the math adventures ahead. Soon, we’ll start Module 2, where we’ll explore teen numbers and learn clever strategies like making ten to solve problems faster.
In reading, we’ll continue mastering short vowels, digraphs, and ending consonant blends like nd, nk, and st. Our community studies will grow as we learn how to use maps to get around and discuss the important rules that keep our neighborhoods safe and happy.
Science will keep us curious as we explore plant and animal defenses—how they protect themselves to survive in the wild.
Don’t forget to keep practicing handwriting at home! It really helps us become confident writers.
All testing is complete, and students are working hard to be more independent. This means we’ll soon start forming reading groups to give everyone extra support and challenge.
