Kindergarten

Dear Kindergarten Families,

February has been a busy, exciting, and hands-on month in Kindergarten! Here’s a look at what our learners have been exploring and what’s coming next in Rooms 8 & 11.

Math 🧮
Our students have been working through Module 3, learning all about measurement—including length, height, capacity, and weight. We also practiced comparing numbers 1–10 using math language such as greater than, less than, more, and fewer.
Up next in math: Number Pairs and Addition & Subtraction to 10—we can’t wait to get started!

ELA & Science 🦉🐺
We have now wrapped up our Animal Unit, with a special focus on Owls and Wolves. Our students were busy scientists, researchers, artists, and writers! Some highlights include:

  • Writing owl research reports
  • Dissecting owl pellets
  • Welcoming a visit from Audubon and meeting a real owl
  • Building wolf habitat dioramas using clay sculptures and mixed materials, all based on student-drawn plans
  • Creating wolf research books

Our Animal Showcase on February 12th marked the end of the unit. Students proudly shared their artwork, block creations, sculptures, writing, and experiments with their families—what a special celebration of their learning

Fundations 🔤

We are working on CVC words in Fundations. Students are engaging in fun, multisensory activities that help them segment and blend sounds as they continue growing into confident, emerging readers.

Looking Ahead 🏗️

In March, we will begin our Construction Unit! If you or a family member works in construction or a related field and would like to volunteer to share your work with our class, we would love to hear from you.

Thank you for your continued support, and we hope your family enjoys February Winter Break. We are so proud of our kindergarten learners and all they’ve accomplished!

Warmly,

Miss Aceto & Miss Rathbun
